2011- The Year in Review
2010 ended on a high note with BIS Ch Aikerskaill Jury of One ("Sophie") winning two all-breed BIS under Chris Neilson and Don Emslie. Sophie was #2 Whippet in Canada for 2010.
Our Dolly x Justin litter was born November 21, 2010 (Ch Aikerskaill Miss Independence and Am Ch Bohem Just in Time). It was exciting litter of 4 boys and 3 girls but raising a litter in the middle of a Canadian winter -- crazy! We decided to keep 3 puppies plus 2 more that were going to homes in the USA stayed with us until the American Whippet Club National in April.
February We escape Manitoba winter with our annul Trip to New York city for the Westminster kennel club dog show ! Lots of shopping ,eating ,and drinking. One of the highlights was our birthday lunch Harriett's Bother ,Tom at La Mela's restaurant in Little Italy .We're going to do it again next year! Diane not going to miss N.Y next year .HA
April saw Diane Fast, Rob and David setting out for the AWC National in Lexington, KY with Dolly and 5 puppies; a good way to get the pups used to travelling. They all did well making lots of new friends. To that point all they knew was snow and ice and so it was a hoot to watch their reactions as they encountered grass and flowers for the first time. Harriett Lee (Winsmith), Dolly's co-owner and co-breeder of the litter was the AWC National judge so we didn't enter the show; but we had a great week visiting with Harriett, touring Lexington horse farms, visiting with friends and being spectators at the show.
March David 's judging trip to Japan got cancelled because of the earthquake and tsunami
In May, the puppies hit the show ring for the first time: Aikerskaill Winsmith Our Time ("Travis) and his two sisters, Aikerskaill Winsmith This Time ("Tess") and Aikerskaill in a NY Minute ("Madison"). David was judging in New Zealand in May and so we missed their first shows (Fort Garry Kennel Club and Saskatoon Kennel Club). Thank you to Diane Fast and Jody Ripstein for shepherding the pups through their first outing in the show ring where they picked up championship point and won Puppy Groups. Chalamar Brindle Pinafore at Tooet ("Esme") arrived at Aikerskaill in May. Thank you, Charlotte Lee for entrusting us with Esme.
IIn June, Sophie, Travis, Tess, Madison and Esme headed off to Kenora, ON with David and Diane for a set of 6 limited entry shows. Diane had a Dalmatian bitch, Liza that was close to whelping but with Kenora only being 2 hours from home --not a problem. On the first day, Madison finished her championship by going Best of Winners at the first show. On the First day BIS Ch Aikerskaill Jury of One, Sophie won the breed & group two & four in group. We no sooner got to the show grounds on Day 2 when Diane got a call from Greg, her husband. Liza was in labour. So Diane turned around and headed home leaving David to show Esme and the three puppies. In the morning show, Tess finished her championship under Judge Pam Bruce with a Group 1st and Puppy Group. In the afternoon, Madison went Group 2nd and Puppy Group under Judge Bart Miller. Travis didn`t get points since he was the only male entered and his sisters won over him. Both Tess and Madison went on to win Best Puppy in Show under their respective judges. As a breeder, this was a great thrill; it was just too bad that Diane couldn`t be there to see it after all the training she put in with the girls. But Liza had her puppies without problem and mom and pups were doing well. On the final day of the Kenora shows, Chalamar Brindle Pinafore Tooet. "Esme" went Group 1st for 5 points under Judge Michael Lanctot - what a way to start her Canadian show career! I also had to show " Porter " Ch Speciald the best of Broadway to 2 Group 2 Not bad for a Old Man
One of the high light was judge at Summerfest in California this summer it was agreat show with large entry's, I got to judge my first American Best in Show, All seven group winner where wonderful dogs, I selected a beautiful Afghan hound that just flowed around the ring AM Ch Thaon's Mowgli, He won the group all three and repeated Best In Show Sunday under Mrs Keke Kahn
I also judged a poodle specialty on the Thursday with a very good entry , If you get ask to judge at Summerfest it a treat ,well run show with great people and on ocean in a great park with large rings, great food.
Walking over to the show each morning along the boardwalk with the sun coming up on Ventura beach ,surf out trying to catch a wave, also got a chance to catch up with old friends.
David and Rob travelled to Thunder Bay for the Argus Kennel Club shows with 3 whippet puppies and one brown-spotted dog, Ch Speciald the Best of Broadway ("Porter"). Travis showed well for Rob and picked up championship points. Tess won 2 more Group 1st and 2 Best Puppy in Group. Madison won 4 Group 1st, 4 Puppy Groups, 2 Best in Show and 2 Best Puppy in Show under Guy Jeavons and Mark Houston. We were over the moon! The drive home to Manitoba was smooth and quick!.
At this point, we made the decision to show Madison for the balance of the year. Both girls were still very young and it did not seem fair to show against each other. In July at the Lakehead Kennel Club shows Madison took 2 Group 1st under judges Joan Beech and Brian Taylor plus Best Puppy in Show under Brian Taylor. She placed 2nd and 3rd in Group under judges Jan Buchanan and Mel Beech respectively. Thank you Tanis Hindle for handling Maddie. Travis finished his championship at these shows.
August was the kind of month you dream of. At the Manitoba Canine Association shows, Madison set a record for a Canadian whippet puppy: Best in Specialty at the Canadian Whippet National under noted hound judge Sean Shields; Best in Specialty at the Manitoba Hound Club Specialty under US judge Terry Stacey; 2 Best Puppy in Show at the All-Breed show under US judge Jackie Stacey and NZ judge Shona Prebble plus 3 Group 1st and Best Puppy in Group.
After this weekend, Madison and her Fast family went to the lake for a much needed rest. But how can you rest with 3 whippets, 6 Dalmatians and 5 six-week old Dalmatian puppies. Poor Greg.
In September, Madison won the Group and Best Puppy in Show under judge Larry Kereluke; Group 2nd and Best Puppy in Show under judge Fred Dewsbury and Group 1st and Best Puppy in Show under Australian judge Robert Dawson.
Madison had many other great weekends during the balance of 2011. Diane and David travelled East in October to the Nipissing Kennel Club shows in North Bay, ON where Madison picked up 6 Group 1st and 4 Best Puppy in Show under judges Morley Thornton, Bob and Elaine Whitney and Guy Jeavons. Fort Garry kennel club Esme Chalamar Brindle Pinafore at Tooet pick up points
"Dolly " Ch Aikerskaill Miss Independence won a 3 point Major in the U.S Under Diane Miller Thank you to Nancy Doucette for showing our girl , Dolly only need a major to finish her U.S Tile ,she has been our major reserves Queen LOL
At Lower Mainland shows in Abbotsford, BC she went Best of Breed twice over a large entry and went Best Puppy in Show under Australian judge Joey Lim.
Madison also went Reserve Best in Show, Group 2 under Neil Graves as well as Best Puppy in Show, Group 1 under Bud Haverstock . " Esme" now Can Ch Chalamar Brindle Pinafore at Tooet finish her champion.
Madison ended the year as #2 Whippet, #1 Hound Puppy and #2 Puppy (All Breeds).

2 all breed Best in Shows /1 Reserve Best in Show 15 Best Puppy in show 2 Specialty Best Puppy Show , Manitoba Hound Specialty 15 Group 1 plus many other placements
On the Spotted dogs I co-own with Diane Fast of Speciald Dalmatian "Porter " 2011 record was

We have many to thank. Diane Fast, as co-owner for believing in Madison and piloting her through one of our most exciting years ever. Harriett Lee, as co-breeder and co-owner, for her love, friendship and guidance. Nancy Doucette for letting Dolly come to Justin. And finally, all the Judges for their kind words and recognizing Madison's qualities with their placements.
Looking ahead to 2012, we are excited to announce that MBIS Ch Aikerskaill Gossip Girl ("Stella") and Am BIS CanCh Onyxx Silence is Golden ("Simon") presented us with a wonderful litter just before the stroke of midnight on New Year's Eve. Thank you Dr. Dale McKague and Dorothy McKague for helping Stella ring in the New Year with 7 healthy whippet puppies (5 boys and 2 girls). Diane couldn`t be there to see it after all the training she put in with the girls. But Liza had her puppies without problem and mom and pups were doing well. On the final day of 5 boys and 2 girls).
